O’Neill Associates – Providing success through the planning process

Oneil Associates

O’Neill Associates, who have supported the York Design Awards for five years, have a strong track record in demonstrating this value. As well as advising clients nationally, they have worked as part of project teams on some of York’s best-known buildings and developments over the past three decades. This includes the University of York’s Heslington East Campus, the new residential Chocolate Works scheme on the site of the former Terry’s factory and the City of York Council’s award-winning West Offices project. Outside of York, the practice is advising clients in Harrogate and Scarborough on residential schemes.

Providing specialist advice on a wide range of planning, development and infrastructure issues from their Clifton Moor offices, O’Neill Associates is a team of experienced town planners who pride themselves on their creative approach to providing solutions. They play a wide-ranging role, contributing to the formulation of proposals, identifying the key issues and developing a planning strategy based on the ambitions of clients.

With so many aspects of the planning process to navigate, the company’s role is pivotal to success. Their advice can start with assessment of the development potential of a client’s land or buildings, followed by preparation and submission of comprehensive applications for proposals. That’s only part of their specialist service, however. The team of RTPI (Royal Town Planning Institute) chartered consultants are experienced in numerous development areas, providing specialist advice on development plan issues and Section 106 agreements, and assisting clients through direct representation and negotiations on their behalf, as well as undertaking sign-off of planning conditions.

Eamonn Keogh, Consultant at O’Neill Associates, says: “We provide help with any planning issues that clients have, from making sure their land is put forward to be considered for allocation in planning documents, to preparing and submitting planning applications and managing them through the development management process. We have a loyal client base, and we strongly support the York Design Awards’ passion and drive for good design in the city – something we would like to think we’ve helped play a part in with our local clients.

“We often work with clients at the very early stages of a project, which can be vital to avoid the many potential pitfalls that can be extremely time-consuming, thus delaying a project’s progress, and potentially very costly. Equally though, we can provide support at any stage of the development process, including where a client has encountered unforeseen challenges or needs specialist assistance to resolve planning issues.”
