Internationally acclaimed architect Ken Shuttleworth will be in York next week to launch the 2014 York Design Awards.
Over 100 people will attend an event at West Offices – itself a York Design Awards winner in 2013 – to hear him outline how understanding a sense of place is vital for those involved in building design, especially in a city like York where heritage is so important. A number of places at the early evening presentation on Monday 3rd February have been reserved for Press readers.
Now in their eighth year, the York Design Awards, and The Press People’s Award have become a fixture on the city’s calendar. Introduced to encourage the highest standards of restoration and refurbishment of existing buildings and the best design in new buildings and spaces in York, the awards have received an extra boost this year with the news that Hiscox is sponsoring the awards for the next three years. Other sponsors include O’Neill Associates, F Parkinson, York Civic Trust and City of York Council.
Additional sponsors for 2014, including some of the city’s major businesses, will be unveiled at the launch event.
MAKE Architects, founded by Ken Shuttleworth in 2004 and now one of the foremost architectural practices in the UK, have designed the new Hiscox offices in Hungate which received unanimous approval from the planning committee in December.
Details of how to enter the prestigious awards, which are open to builders, architects, developers and building owners are available here
Winners will be announced and presented with their awards at a major event in June.
