This year, we have removed the option for applicants to enter a specific category. This decision has been made to allow our judges to recognise truly excellent design without artificial barriers.
Instead, entries will be judged against a set of criteria and awards will be given according to the discretion of the judges.
We will be asking applicants to explain how their chosen scheme meets the judging criteria of: Quality of Design, Context, Materials & Workmanship, Sustainability and the Ability to Delight.
In line with previous years, the judges will be awarding a number of special awards. The Lord Mayor’s Award is for an exceptional design, The Sustainability Award is for an exceptional application of sustainable principles, The Conservation Award recognises an exceptional conservation project, and Finally, the People’s Choice Award is made by a public vote the York and entries opt into this public vote.
Although there will be no listed categories this year, our judges will still consider the nature each entry, for example as residential, commercial, open space, community, mixed use, sustainability, and conservation.
